 What is an AHA BLS Instructor?

An AHA BLS Instructor is certified to teach Basic Life Support courses for healthcare providers and lay rescuers. BLS includes high-quality CPR, AED use, rescue breathing, team dynamics, and response to cardiac arrest and choking emergencies.

As a BLS Instructor, you’ll have the skills and authority to:

Instructor Course Requirements:

To become an AHA BLS Instructor, you must:

  1. Hold a current AHA BLS Provider certification
    (You must demonstrate strong BLS skills.)
  2. Be aligned with an authorized AHA Training Center (TC)
    (The TC will mentor you, monitor your teaching, and issue cards.)
  3. Complete the AHA BLS Instructor Essentials Course (online)
    (A self-paced course covering AHA philosophy, course delivery, and instructor responsibilities.)
  4. Attend a hands-on Instructor-led session
    (You’ll be evaluated on your teaching and skills.)
  5. Be successfully monitored teaching your first course within 6 months
    (This ensures quality and readiness to teach independently.)
